It's been a very busy and exciting few days. So many things I could have blogged about, but not enough time to o any of it.
On Saturday, all of us Thompsons went to Tynemouth Priory for an English Heritage Medieval Knight's Tournament. This was very good indeed - they did things properly, and we spent an afternoon watching large men in armour bashing each other with axes, and a bit later jousting with long sticks on horseback. There was also falconry and some very entertaining musicians. The people who put the event on were very professional, and the costumes were great - very impressed with the standard. We got a bit wet towards the end of the afternoon, but glad I was able to go.
On Sunday it was Ronan's Bigge Sunday at Linden Hall - a charity concert starring Ronan Keating, Journey South and Peter Grant. The 300 VIP guests were being served a gourmet picnic hamper supplied by Pride of Northumbria, and that's why we were there, Rebecca and her sisters, Ian, Russel and Colin from Fourways Foods and me.
It was a busy day, but really good to be part of something that big(ge) and we managed to put together all of the hampers in a very cramped space, and present them to the people who'd paid £150 for their VIP tickets. Ant or Dec was there, as was Sir John Hall, and some people from East Enders who I didn't recognise because I don't watch it and they aren't in it anymore anyway. Jamie Cullum was there too apparently, but I didn't see him.
Ronan Keating was very good live, but I also really enjoyed Peter Grant - a 17 year old crooner from Yorkshire whose debut album New Vintage presents Frank Sinatra style material in a new way. He's a nice bloke too, and I got his autograph for my mum who likes him.
Ooooh - and I got a kangaroo skin hat from Ian too! In case it rained, which it did a little bit but not enough to spoil the day. I love my hat and will wear it with pride in the rain.
Monday evening watched The Squid and The Whale - a very touching film about 2 kids and their different reactions and allegiances to their writer-parents as they're splitting up. Worth watching.
And TONIGHT for ONE NIGHT ONLY - Mr Mavin and Friends LIVE in NEWBIGGIN!!!! If you're able to come along to The Black Pearl (formerly The Old Ship) tonight from about 8 - then please do so! Artists include Andrew Mavin, who will be singing a range of songs, some of them his own, and also Andy Curtis on keys, Ali Reay on guitar, Chris Farrow on sax, me on percussion, and Christine Curry on vocals. Maybe Anita will be there. Maybe others. Tim and Brenda, are you able to come over? Tony Brown, are you free tonight? All welcome, free entry, informal musical fun and that - and have your drinks brought to you by actual pirates.
See you there...
